Do not equate the load weight with rated capacity
Confirm the total weight of the load and dunnage, load length in the fork direction, actual load centre and pickup position. If the centre of gravity is offset or lifting is permitted only at specified points, provide a dimensioned drawing or photographs.
Capacity must be verified against the load chart of the exact forklift at the required lift height. Push-pull units, clamps and other attachments add weight and affect the load centre; after fitting an attachment, the nominal lifting capacity cannot be assumed to remain unchanged.

Site conditions determine whether a large forklift can be deployed
Floor load capacity and loading ramps
The floor carries the truck's own weight, the load and concentrated wheel loads. The facility manager or a qualified professional should verify capacity for the specific equipment and travel route. Do not compare only the load weight with an average floor-load rating.
Turning space and access
Measure doorways, turning areas at the end of rack aisles and intersections. Long loads increase the actual turning space compared with an unloaded truck. Where there are slopes, provide the gradient and elevation changes so the limits of the proposed configuration can be checked.
Lithium or diesel for 5-ton work?
An electric configuration should be assessed for charging location, break periods, indoor-use requirements and energy used per lifting cycle. Diesel requires a refuelling plan and control of environmental conditions. For both options, tyres, floor surface and the actual work area must be checked.
Forklifts carrying the same 5-ton rating can have different rated load centres and body dimensions. Confirm the full model code and specification sheet in the quotation. A compact-body configuration should not be treated as fully equivalent to another configuration when handling long loads.
Plan delivery and collection to avoid surprises at the factory gate
Provide the unloading point, weight limits on internal roads, receiving hours and the factory's safety requirements. Transport vehicle, loading/unloading and collection charges should be itemised separately or confirmed as included in the rental rate.
When planning, identify the person receiving the truck, where documents will be checked and the scope of the test run. Special lifting work, such as positioning machinery for installation, requires a separate technical assessment; do not assume that renting a 5-ton forklift includes machinery-relocation services.

Rental rates depend on configuration, shifts, operating hours, term and delivery location. Request the same service scope when comparing total costs.

Technical support SLA and handover plan
Agree in writing on fault-reporting contacts, service hours, response times, site attendance and arrangements during downtime. Response time is different from repair completion time; record both so the warehouse can plan goods movements.
